The mission of ZiRu Dance Summer Camp is to empower and embolden young artists (ages 14-18) through the medium of dance. Technique classes will help students cultivate the strength and skills required in choreography while also encouraging deepened expression of personal artistry. Throughout the week, students will work on a rotating basis with our faculty to ensure that they are exposed to a variety of teaching styles and dynamic influences. Summer camp participants will also have the exclusive opportunity to learn acclaimed ZiRu Dance repertory from Artistic Director Philein Wang and ZiRu Dance company members. By offering a wide variety of dance styles, ZiRu Dance Summer Camp aims to help each student find his or her individual voice.

School Outreaches

Spring 2017 gave ZiRu Dance the opportunity to meet with some local dancers for a series of dance workshops and master classes. We had a blast working with the dance department students at Hillsdale and San Mateo High Schools, and we also got to dance outside in the sun with a first grade class from Serendipity School.

Thank you to Hillsdale High School, San Mateo High School, & Serendipity School!

Festival in Review: Across the Current Now (2016)

ZiRu Dance’s inaugural Silicon Valley Dance Festival™ was a great success! Curated by founding members Philein Wang and Emily Withenbury, Across the Current Now showcased fresh and innovative work from ZiRu Dance Artistic Director Philein Wang; dance-choreographers from ZiRu Dance; Christian Burns of burnsWORK; Winifred R. Harris of Between Lines; and Holly Johnston and the artists of LEDGES AND BONES – all of whom presented Silicon Valley premieres. This year’s festival also featured performances from an all-star cast of artists who have performed with companies from around the United States and beyond, including Alonzo King LINES Ballet, Guangdong Modern Dance Company, Oakland Ballet, Robert Moses’ KIN, and more.

Leading up to the festival, ZiRu Dance also had the opportunity to work with students from the Dance Department at Hillsdale High School in San Mateo. In the workshop, students found freedom of movement in improvisational exercises and explored different styles of dance in dynamic choreography by Elizabeth Chitty and Charles Roy.

Thank you to all who attended and supported SVDF 2016, including community members from Academy of American Ballet, Facebook, Google, Hillsdale High School Dance Department, LG Electronics, Menlo Park Senior Center, Oracle, Serendipity School, and more!
